Slide Decks: Spring 2024 Course Recommendations for Majors (for Arts Undergraduates)

*Note: Courses subject to change at any time. Always check the Schedule of Classes for updated course offerings, even after you enroll.

To access, students must be logged into their UCI Google account.


*NEW STARTING FALL 2023* Pass/Not Pass Updates

  • Students who take a course for Pass/Not Pass (P/NP) starting in Fall 2023 will need to earn at least a grade of a “C-“ or better in order to pass the course. This will reflect as a “P” in the course.
    • This will not applicable to courses completed in summer 2023 and previous quarters.
  • University Requirements
    • Entry Level Writing: Passing grade is C or better and P/NP is not an option. COURSE MUST BE TAKEN FOR A LETTER GRADE. NO EXCEPTIONS.
    • American History & Institutions: Passing grade is now C- or better. P/NP is an option.
  • General Education Requirements
    • GE Ia (Lower-Division Writing): Passing grade is now C- or better. P/NP is an option.
    • GE Ib (Upper-Division Writing): Passing grade is now C- or better. P/NP is an option.
      • Note: If taking an upper division writing course that also counts for a major course requirement, you must take the course for a letter grade and earn a C- or better to count for both requirements.

Updated Entry-Level and Lower Division Course Numbering

  • Writing 39A is now Writing 40
  • Writing 39AP is now Writing 40A
  • Writing 37 is now Writing 45
  • Writing 39B is now Writing 50
  • Writing 39C is now Writing 60

UCI Summer Session

  • The schedule & enrollment for Summer Session at UCI is available March 1, 2024: https://summer.uci.edu/courses/.
    • To enroll, you must enroll through the Summer Session website.
    • There are three sessions: 10-wk, Summer Session I, and Summer Session II.
  • Summer Session Feeshttps://summer.uci.edu/fees/.
  • Summer Session Financial Aidhttps://summer.uci.edu/financial-aid/.
    • Students will need to submit an additional application to request aid for summer, which will be available mid to late March. Current financial aid will not cover summer courses at UCI.
  • If you plan to enroll in more than 10 units per each session, you need to email Summer Session at summer-session@uci.edu to add the course.
  • If you plan to enroll in more than 12 units per each session, you need to email artscounselor@uci.edu to process unit increases.
    • You must have a minimum UCI GPA of 3.0 or above to be approved.
