Strategic Plan
UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts Strategic Plan

Our Vision

Re-imagining creativity for the 21st century.

Our Mission

While maintaining the highest levels of excellence in the exploration and presentation of traditional artforms, our mission is to explore, define, and implement new modes of art conception, production and critique. We are committed to:

  • enhancing traditional forms of art creation as vital to the well-being of global culture

  • exploring nascent artforms, focusing on their role in social practice

CTSA is a nationally-ranked arts school dedicated to research, scholarship, performance, and critique, actively engaging the on- and off-campus population and alumni, forming partnerships worldwide. The departments, centers, and programs of the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, each with a rich history of achievement, share a common set of goals focused on the most provocative and inspiring explorations of the arts and their relation to individual, societal, and cultural life.

The Claire Trevor School of the Arts is central to UCI’s ambitions. Our Strategic Plan is built on four pillars:

  1. Fostering creative research
  2. Developing the citizen–artist
  3. Building community through the arts
  4. Excellence in production, exhibition

Our Strategy

The Claire Trevor School of the Arts will focus on these strategic goals for 2016-21:

  • Initiating a new doctoral program in the History and Theory of Music.

  • Implementing certificate, or self-sustaining programs in 1) Arts Management (with the Merage School of Business), 2) Presentation Design, 3) Digital Arts

  • Enhancing and expanding the Beall Center for Art + Technology into a twenty-first century research and exhibition facility as part of an Interdisciplinary Arts initiative, involving enhanced numbers of faculty and prioritizing the Center for broader connection to CTSA’s research, productions, and exhibitions

  • Expanding the Twenty-First Century Creativity area (21C) as a platform for research and presentation, engaging artists, scholars, and researchers from numerous other UCI schools and beyond

  • Increasing staff in Development and production

These goals are predicated on enhanced interaction among CTSA departments and disciplines, and with other areas of research at and beyond UCI.

Our commitment is to be a national arts leader, to bring the Claire Trevor School of the Arts to new prominence among arts programs, through engagement in and exploration of traditional and emerging artforms.
