American Monument to be “un-paused” at The Beall Center for Art + Technology

IRVINE, Calif. – The Beall Center for Art + Technology at University of California Irvine (UCI) presents American Monument, an artwork by lauren woods that examines the cultural conditions under which African-Americans lose their lives to police brutality. Initially inaugurated at the University Art Museum at California State University, Long Beach in September of 2018, the monument’s production was paused there by the artist as an act of protest. Beall Center Artistic Director David Familian was present at the enactment of the pause and was moved by the work. “I am immensely proud that the Beall will now host this significant work of art,” says Familian.

A Tribute to Tony DeLap, honoring the life and work of a brilliant artist and educator

EVENT:
A Tribute to Tony DeLap. UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts, Laguna Art Museum, Orange County Museum of Art, and Parrasch Heijnen Gallery will hold a public tribute to celebrate the life and work of the late Tony DeLap who passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at his home in Corona del Mar, California. The memorial will take place on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at 1 p.m. at the Irvine Barclay Theatre. Friends, family, and colleagues will share stories and memories to honor DeLap’s legacy and the many facets of the artist’s life as a family man, teacher, magician, and revered California artist. A hosted reception will follow the program.

UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts Names Samantha Lin as the 2019 Annual ASTAIREAWARDS® Scholarship and Award Recipient

Irvine, Calif. – The Claire Trevor School of the Arts' department of dance, at the University of California, Irvine, is pleased to announce fourth-year dance student Samantha Lin as the  2019 ASTAIREAWARDS® Scholarship and Award recipient.  The annual ASTAIREAWARDS® scholarship is presented  to students for their excellence in dance, choreography, and music. Ms. Lin will be honored at the annual Claire Trevor School of the Arts scholarship dinner on Tuesday, June 4, 2019.

“We are very pleased to be giving the 2019 ASTAIREAWARDS® scholarship and award to Samantha for her outstanding performances, choreography and being a good artist citizen,” said Molly Lynch, chair of the department of dance. “She has excelled in our dance program.”

Irvine, Calif., May 1, 2019 – UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts is launching its new “fantasy music camp” for adult solo musicians wanting stage and performance experience named “In The Band.” The 8-week program begins Thursday, July 22 and culminates Saturday, September 14, 2019, with a gig at the Anaheim House of Blues. This exciting program gives you the coaching necessary to become a “member of the band”!

UCI DRAMA PRESENTS THE CALIFORNIA PREMIERE OF JAMES FRITZ’S PROVOCATIVE PLAY PARLIAMENT SQUARE

Irvine, Calif., February 28, 2019 – UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts presents the California premiere of the provocative new play Parliament Square written by award-winning playwright James Fritz and directed by Jane Page. The show will be performed in the Experimental Media Performance Lab (xMPL) at the Contemporary Arts Center, UC Irvine March 9 - 17, 2019.
