Visiting Artists Lectures Series (VALS) and UCI Center for Medical Humanities present:

Na Mira

Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023
12 p.m.
Contemporary Arts Center Colloquium Room

Na Mira’s autobody rites tend to entanglements at the edge of perception. She weaves infrared night vision, holograms, radio and other frequencies with performance, poetics and ancestral technologies. Reckoning with the apparatus and animism, Mira witnesses what arrives. Recent projects expand on shamanism, the Demilitarized Zone, schizophrenia, quantum physics, dreams, and other borders of body and state. These fugitive traces bare the violence of being outside this world and the ecstasy of making another.

Mira’s work has been exhibited at Whitney Museum of American Art; Company Gallery; The Kitchen; Participant Inc.; Seoul Museum of Art; Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul; Midway Contemporary Art; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and Parkview/Paul Soto. She graduated from UCLA and School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has received awards from the Rauschenberg Foundation, the Foundation for Contemporary Art, and Rema Hort Mann Foundation. Wendy’s Subway published the first collection of her writing this Fall. Mira grew up between the U.S. and East Asia and lives in Los Angeles.

This event is organized by Simon Leung and is co-presented by UCI Department of Art and UCI Center for Medical Humanities.
