The annual series, organized by graduate students in Art, invites artists, scholars, curators, critics, gallerists and writers to give public lectures and conduct studio visits with students relevant to graduate students' research and practice. The series will be in-person and live streamed. There will be drinks and dinner after the lecture on CAC 4th floor. Please visit the VALS webpage for links and information on other events in the series.

About the Artist

Filip Kostic is an Artist, College Professor, and video game developer born in Belgrade, Serbia and living and working out of Los Angeles. He primarily has a research based practice and works in mediums ranging from sculpture, to twitch stream performances, to video and animation, and games and simulation. His work addresses the increasingly shrinking distinction and blurring of physical/bodily experience with the ‘virtual’ experience. Oftentimes, Kostic works with ideas of atomized labor, and the ways in which contemporary digital culture is both a call and response to the shrinking individual experience. Filip’s work exists in multiple contexts simultaneously, such as the exhibition space as an installation or sculpture, as well as the internet through streams and social platforms, or video games and simulations to be played at your personal computer.

Filip received his BFA from Art Center College of Design (2016). Kostic has held solo presentations at Rogers Office as well as the Graduate Wind Tunnel Gallery. He has participated in exhibitions at the Ujazdowski Castle Center for Contemporary Art, has had his streamed performances screened at Alyssa Davis Gallery in New York, he’s been included in  Ars Electronica in Austria as part of the Belgrade Gardens, group shows throughout the United States and Europe, and has been had his work published on donotresearch.net.

VALS is presented with generous support from The Claire Trevor Society, the CTSA Dean's Fund for Excellence, and UCI Illuminations..
