CONNECT Magazine Cover Contest – Celebrating Arts & Legacy

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the naming of the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, CONNECT magazine invites current CTSA students to submit original cover designs for the upcoming "Arts & Legacy" issue. Students will be provided with a selected headshot of Oscar-winning actress, visual artist and philanthropist Claire Trevor to serve as the focal point of their design.
 
This is your opportunity to reimagine the magazine cover by celebrating Claire Trevor’s legacy and the vibrant history and future of CTSA through your artistic lens. The winning design will be featured on the cover of CONNECT, and the selected student will also be spotlighted in the issue. 
 
All submissions will be displayed during the joint 60th anniversary of UC Irvine and the 25th-anniversary celebration of CTSA in the 2025 fall quarter.

Design Guidelines

  • You must incorporate the provided headshot of Claire Trevor in your design.
  • This is a celebratory cover to honor the 25 years of the naming of the Claire Trevor School of the Arts.
  • The image must not be altered beyond recognition but can be enhanced, reimagined, layered or stylized.
  • All artistic mediums and design styles are welcome (e.g., digital illustration, collage, painting, mixed media, graphic design).​
  • Graphic must be 5.5 x 8.5 in and high resolution.
  • One submission per student.

Designs may include: 

  • A stylistic reinterpretation of Claire Trevor (e.g., pop art, pointillism, impressionism, calligraphy).
  • Layered transparencies that incorporate moments from CTSA’s history (e.g., past productions, exhibitions, performances).
  • Symbolic or abstract elements that reflect the evolution of the arts at UC Irvine.
  • Submissions must reflect the Arts & Legacy theme and be appropriate for a public university publication.

Restrictions

  • No AI-generated imagery or rendering.
  • No profanity, defamation or inappropriate content.
  • The design must be original and created by the submitting student.

Eligibility

  • Must be currently enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate program within the Claire Trevor School of the Arts.
  • One submission per student.

Submission

  • Submit via the official Google Form by May 31, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. PT
  • Upload high-res image (300 dpi, PDF or PNG/JPG preferred)
  • Include a brief artist statement (max 200 words)
  • Please note: the final image will be converted into CYMK mode for print.
