Support Research and Innovation

Research and innovation are central to the mission of the Claire Trevor School of the Arts at UC Irvine. Faculty and graduate students engage in creative research that advances new ideas, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, and connects artistic practice with scholarship, technology, and public engagement.

Your support strengthens a culture of experimentation and discovery that spans all four departments and extends across the school’s research centers and performance spaces.

Where Your Support Makes an Impact

Creative Research Across the Arts

UCI Arts Research and Innovation highlights and supports creative arts research led by faculty and graduate students. This work often crosses disciplinary boundaries, bringing together artists, scholars, engineers, and scientists to explore new forms of expression and inquiry.

Donor support enables research development, experimentation, and collaboration that expand the reach and impact of creative scholarship at UCI Arts.

Shared Centers and Collaborative Spaces

School-level centers and performance spaces, such as the Experimental Media Performance Lab (xMPL) provide essential resources for interdisciplinary research and creative exploration. These shared environments support collaboration across art, dance, drama, and music while connecting UCI Arts with partners across campus and beyond.

Philanthropic investment sustains facilities, equipment, and technical expertise that make ambitious, cross-disciplinary work possible.

Beall Center for Art + Technology

The Beall Center for Art + Technology is a nationally recognized hub for research, exhibitions, and public programs that explore evolving relationships between art, science, and engineering. Through innovative uses of digital technologies and expanded media, the Beall Center reimagines the museum and gallery experience while connecting artists with audiences.

The Beall Center presents a diverse range of artists who engage technology and expanded media to address contemporary cultural issues, often featuring world premieres and newly commissioned works. Public programs include artist lectures, LASER Talks presented in partnership with Leonardo Journal for Arts and Sciences, free public tours, and free S.T.E.A.M.-based workshops for students and educators.

Donor support advances exhibitions, artist commissions, public programs, and educational opportunities that position the Beall Center at the forefront of expanded media arts in the United States.
