American Song Recital

Nicole Mitchell, flute Recital of newly commissioned works for countertenor, plus beloved standards.

The recital focuses the first half on poetry of Countee Cullen, with new music by H Leslie Adams, Adolphus Hailstork, Lori Laitman, Andre Myers, Maria Thompson Corley, and jazz flutist Nicole M. Mitchell. The second half begins with a new song cycle by Robert Owens, on poetry of Arthur Rimbaud, Rimbaud-Cabaret. The program concludes with songs of Lee Hoiby. Winifred Smith Hall    8:00 pm

Join us for a pre-concert lecture on "Countee Cullen" hosted by Dr. Nahum Chandler, professor of African-American Studies. 7:30 pm in Winifred Smith Hall.
