Teresa K. Pond Named Producing Artistic Director

Teresa K. Pond (MFA 2003) has been named Producing Artistic Director for the Cyrano’s Theatre Company in Anchorage, Alaska. Teresa previously served as the Producing Artistic Director of Millbrook Playhouse in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania. She also served as Executive Director of Anchorage Community Theatre. She has worked with New York Classical Theatre, Vital Theatre Company, and the New York Fringe Festival. LINK.

Sakina Ibrahim Nominated for NAACP Image Award

Author, performer and dance educator Sakina Ibrahim (MFA 2014) has been nominated for the 47th Annual NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work Instructional for her self-published book Big Words to Little Me: Advice to the Younger Self. Big Words to Little Me serves as a creative approach towards self-development that focuses on addressing personal and collective challenges, in order to discover the power of choice and determination. Sakina demonstrates her dedication to help young people develop the tools necessary to navigate life’s challenges, in order to lead happy and healthy lives. Sakina graduated from Pioneer Valley Performing Arts High School, received her Bachelors of Fine Arts from University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA and a Masters of Fine Arts from University of California, Irvine. The official award will be announced on February 5th, 2016 in Los Angeles.

Cindy Lin Released New CD Album, French Character Pieces, by Centaur Records

UCI Alumna Cindy Lin (BM, 2003) released a new CD album, French Character Pieces, by Centaur Records

Dr. Cindy Lin is a concert pianist and recording artist. While specializing in French music and American contemporary music, her repertoire also includes composers from the baroque period through the present day. Dr. Lin has performed extensively in solo and chamber music recitals across the U.S. continent. She has also performed in Taiwan.

Dr. Lin is currently on the music faculty at Des Moines Area Community College, Boone Campus as well as Ellsworth Community College at Iowa Falls. She received a DMA in Piano Performance from the University of Maryland, School of Music; an Masters of Music in Piano Performance from The Boston Conservatory; and a Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance from University of California, Irvine, where she was a student of Professor Nina Scolnik. ...

Congratulations to our outstanding faculty and CTSA alumna for their 2015 Ovation Award nominations. 

The Ovation Awards are the only peer-judged theatre awards in Los Angeles, created to recognize excellence in theatrical performance, production and design in the Greater Los Angeles area.

This year, the ceremony will be held at the Ahmanson Theatre on Monday, November 9. Tickets are now on sale, and full information can be found on

Here are some numbers for you. This voting season, there were 297 total productions registered for the Ovation Awards from 118 different producing bodies, resulting in 203 total nominations for 73 productions presented by 45 organizations. These productions were voted on by 240 Ovation Awards voters — vetted individuals from the Greater Los Angeles area who are working theatre professionals.
