Immortal Beloved: Bach, Beethoven, and Beyond | Choral Masterworks

A masterworks evening exploring the musical worlds of Bach and Beethoven. Immortal Beloved unites the UCI Chamber Singers and Concert Choir with the UCI Symphony Orchestra for a program centered on two of Western music's most enduring giants — Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven.

The evening opens with the UCI Chamber Singers performing Bach's Cantata No. 4: Christ lag in Todesbanden, one of the composer's earliest and most emotional powerful works — a meditation on death and resurrection that pulses with fugal intensity and beauty.

The full forces of choir and orchestra then take the stage for a curated journey through Beethoven's sacred masterworks: the soaring “Hallelujah" from Christ on the Mount of Olives, alongside movements drawn from the monumental Missa Solemnis and Mass in C major. Together, these works trace the arc of Beethoven's lifelong grappling with faith, humanity and transcendence — performed with the full weight of UCI's choral tradition behind them.
