The Art of Performance 12th Edition is presented as part of High Performance: A 2-Year Conference (2025–2027) initiated by the Performance Art Museum, Los Angeles. It is a multi-institutional exploration of the magazine’s enduring impact on contemporary performance and community. This project honors the legacy of High Performance magazine (1978–1997) and the writing of Jacki Apple. She was the contributing and media arts editor from 1983 to 1995, who helped shape the discourse around the emerging performance art scene in Los Angeles. Apple’s essays combined close observation with cultural and historical context, positioning interdisciplinary performance as a vital form of social and artistic practice. Activating her writing as a curatorial framework, this three-day residency brings together artists Apple championed through their new performance, sound, movement and installation projects. These performances map connections between these histories, communities and artists.
