DESCRIPTION:
The Art of Performance 12th Edition is pres
ented as part of High Performance: A 2-Year Conference (2025–2027) initiat
ed by the Performance Art Museum\, Los Angeles. It is a multi-institutiona
l exploration of the magazine’s enduring impact on contemporary performanc
e and community. This project honors the legacy of High Performance magazi
ne (1978–1997) and the writing of Jacki Apple. She was the contributing an
d media arts editor from 1983 to 1995\, who helped shape the discourse aro
und the emerging performance art scene in Los Angeles. Apple’s essays comb
ined close observation with cultural and historical context\, positioning
interdisciplinary performance as a vital form of social and artistic pract
ice. Activating her writing as a curatorial framework\, this three-day res
idency brings together artists Apple championed through their new performa
nce\, sound\, movement and installation projects. These performances map c
onnections between these histories\, communities and artists.

Art
