Lorna Griffitt, D.M. began her performing career at age 16 as a soloist with the Louisville Orchestra under the direction of Robert Whitney in a performance of Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor.
Her teachers include Doris Owen (Bickel), Tong Il Han, György Sebök and Maria Curcio. She earned her doctorate with distinction in piano performance from Indiana University, where she studied with Menahem Pressler.
Griffitt maintains an active career as a soloist, chamber musician and pedagogue, performing throughout the United States, South America, Europe and the Middle East. She began her teaching career in 1974 at DePauw University and joined the University of California, Irvine faculty in 1993.
During the summers, she is frequently invited as guest artist to international festivals including the Schlern International Music Festival in Völs am Schlern, Italy, and the International Cello Encounter in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she teaches, gives master classes and performs in concerto and chamber concerts with international artists. She and violinist Haroutune Bedelian recorded Bach’s Six Sonatas and Partitas with the Robert Schumann piano accompaniment, released by Centaur Records.
