Sarah Awad
Associate Professor of Teaching
Drawing, Painting
M.F.A. University of California, Los Angeles
Sarah Awad makes paintings that investigate complex spatial and color relationships in the context of late modernist figuration. Her compositional and narrative choices draw from art history, while her process balances material accident with gestural intention.
Awad received her B.F.A. from ArtCenter College of Design and her M.F.A. in painting from UCLA.
Recent solo exhibitions include Double Field at Night Gallery, Los Angeles, and Gate Paintings at Diane Rosenstein Gallery, Los Angeles. Her paintings have also been included in Rogue Wave ’13 at L.A. Louver and in group exhibitions in Copenhagen, Vienna, New York, Seattle, Rotterdam, and Miami. She received the Joan Mitchell Foundation M.F.A. grant in 2011, and her work has been reviewed in Art in America, Modern Painters, and New American Paintings.
In addition to her studio practice, Awad has taught at ArtCenter College of Design and California State University, Fullerton.
