Philip Bixby

Dr. Philip Bixby is a visiting lecturer in the UC Irvine music department for the 2026-27 school year. He received his PhD in music history from Yale University in 2025. Dr. Bixby has been involved in university music education for almost a decade and has presented papers at regional and national meetings of the American Musicological Society. His research and teaching interests include modernist music in the twentieth century, the style and reception of rock and metal, music theory and analysis, the sonic dimensions of horror and science fiction, and the aesthetics and philosophy of music.
