Juliette Carrillo is a nationally recognized theatre director, writer, and award-winning filmmaker from Los Angeles. A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, she has directed critically acclaimed productions nationwide, including premieres and classics at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Denver Center Theatre Company, Yale Repertory Theatre, the Mark Taper Forum, South Coast Repertory, Magic Theatre, Alliance Theatre, Arizona Theatre Company, and Actors Theatre of Louisville. She is widely known for developing new plays and has directed workshops at The Public Theater, New York Theatre Workshop, INTAR, and The Women’s Project, among others.

Carrillo collaborates regularly with writers such as Octavio Solis, Luis Alfaro, Karen Zacarías, and Benjamin Benne. She was an ensemble member of Cornerstone Theater Company for over 20 years, writing and directing original works with diverse communities, including the Hindu community, East Salinas farm workers, seniors and caregivers, and the Los Angeles River community. She also served as an artistic associate at South Coast Repertory Theatre for seven years, directing in the main season and leading the Hispanic Playwrights Project, collaborating with writers including Pulitzer Prize winner Nilo Cruz and Oscar nominee José Rivera.

Her filmmaking includes Spiral, her first short film written and directed through the American Film Institute’s prestigious Directing Workshop for Women. The film screened at festivals in the United States and Europe, earning multiple honors. Her screenplay SuperChicas was one of four feature projects selected nationwide for the National Association of Latino Independent Producers’ Latino Producers Lab in Santa Fe and was later showcased at Independent Film Week through IFP’s Emerging Narratives program. Her short film a-litter-a-tion won Best Overall, Best Writing, and Best Acting at the Honolulu 48 Hour Film Project. She is currently in pre-production for her full-length feature, San Ignacio Project (working title).

Carrillo is the recipient of several awards, including the National Endowment for the Arts/Theatre Communications Group Directing Fellowship and the Princess Grace Award. She was also selected by the Sundance Theatre Institute to participate in the Sundance/Luma Foundation Theater Directors’ Retreat in Arles, France.
