Assistant Professor of Teaching

Daniel Keeling

Daniel Keeling is a versatile performing artist and Assistant Professor of Teaching in the Music Theatre program at UC Irvine, specializing in vocal instruction and pedagogy. His work bridges classical, music theatre, and contemporary commercial music (CCM), with a focus on developing adaptable and sustainable techniques across styles. He is especially committed to advocating for creative adaptability and self-sustainability, particularly for artists from marginalized backgrounds entering new creative spaces.

As a performer, Keeling has sung on arena tours and major theatrical and concert stages worldwide, including collaborations with Philip Glass, Leonard Cohen, and German pop artist Sarah Connor. His live and recorded work spans recurring television and radio specials, commercial albums, and an official music video feature.

Recently, Keeling has expanded his creative practice into stage direction. At UCI, he co-directed the Drama Department’s mainstage production of The Prom and directed the premiere of Ancestry, a new play by colleague Zachary Price.

Prior to joining UCI, Keeling lived in Berlin, where he taught music at several schools and maintained a private vocal studio serving 25 students across Germany. A proud native of Kansas, he brings the heart of a New Yorker and a European sensibility to his teaching and creative work.
