Cynthia Bassham has been teaching for more than 35 years and has been a full-time lecturer at the University of California, Irvine, since 2005. She teaches voice, speech and acting and is the faculty supervisor for the beginning acting series (DR 30A-C). She also provides voice, text and dialect direction, as well as intimacy coaching, for select UCI productions.
She has taught and coached at several institutions including South Coast Repertory, Stanford University and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Bassham is also a professional actor with extensive credits, including originating the role of C in the world premiere of Edward Albeeās Three Tall Women, directed by the author.
Bassham received her M.F.A. from the American Conservatory Theater and her B.A. from the University of Washington in Seattle. She is a master teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework and was named director of certification for the Fitzmaurice Institute. She is also a member of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA).
