Undergraduate Study Away Opportunity

Curious what it’s really like to train and work as a performer in New York City? The New York Satellite Program in Music Theatre offers a four-week, full-time, full-credit Spring quarter experience designed for undergraduate Drama students ready to step into the industry’s professional environment.

Program Experience

This immersive program combines daily classes, workshops, and field-based learning in the heart of Manhattan. Students train in acting, voice, and movement, take dance classes at Broadway Dance Center, and study on-camera techniques for film and television. Workshops with casting directors, agents, and working artists provide direct insight into the profession, while talkbacks with Broadway and Off-Broadway casts connect classroom work to professional practice. Instruction is led by UC Irvine faculty and enriched by guest artists working across Broadway, national tours, and related professional settings, bringing a range of perspectives from theatre, film, and television.

Students live together in Manhattan apartments and spend their days engaging with New York’s theatre community, both in the studio and in performance spaces across the city. Outside of scheduled coursework, they have the opportunity to explore museums, performances, and the broader cultural landscape that shapes contemporary performance.

How to Apply

Admission is by audition, held during the first week of Fall quarter. Enrollment is limited to ensure focused training and meaningful engagement with faculty and industry professionals.
