As a student in the UC Irvine Department of Dance, you are part of a distinguished legacy and a vibrant future that continue to shape our program. In 1965, founding chair Eugene Loring and a group of internationally recognized faculty envisioned a dance program rooted in artistic excellence, scholarly inquiry and innovation, establishing a foundation that has earned national and international recognition.

Today, the department brings together rigorous technical training, creative practice and dance-based research. Students explore choreography across a range of forms and contexts, engage with scholarship that expands how we understand dance and incorporate emerging technologies into performance and research. As a UCI dance student, you are an active part of this evolving community, with opportunities to perform, create, collaborate and develop your individual path as an artist and scholar.

The resources below provide important information to help you navigate the academic year, prepare for departmental productions and access the spaces and support available to you.
