Jennifer Bornstein joins the UCI Art faculty

The Department of Art is very pleased to announce the newest addition to the faculty, Jennifer Bornstein.

Recognized professionally by awards such as the Foster Prize (Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston), a Radcliffe Fellowship (Harvard University), and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award, Jennifer Bornstein is an artist with an exceptionally strong record of producing work in a variety of media associated in ways both material and conceptual with photographic processes. Bornstein is a deeply committed instructor as well, having taught extensively at such well-recognized institutions as Pasadena's Art Center College of Design, Yale University and, most recently, Harvard University, from whom she received the Harvard Bok Teaching Award for excellence in teaching.

Bornstein's international exhibition record includes solo exhibitions in highly respected venues including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the Fargfabriken Center for Contemporary Art, Stockholm, the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, the Kunstverien Lüneberg, Germany, and most recently at the Johnson-Kulukundis Gallery, Radcliffe Institute, Harvard University.

Her work has also been included in numerous major group exhibitions, including the 2014 Whitney Biennial, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, Apparitions: Frottages and Rubbings from 1860 to Now, at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, Encore, at the Bonniers Kunsthalle, Sweden, The Artists' Film Club, Institute of Contemporary Art, London, and USA: American Video Art at the Beginning of the 3rd Millennium, Moscow Biennial, among numerous others.

Jennifer Bornstein's work receives extensive critical notice, having been discussed in many influential publications including the Boston Globe, the Wall Street Journal, Leonardo, Frieze, the Village Voice, Artforum, and Afterall.  In addition to an eponymous 2016 monograph on her work published by Walter Koenig Books, Bornstein has herself authored five artist's books, published by such well-known imprints as Imshoot Press, Belgium and Four-Corners Books, London.

Professor Bornstein will be an enormous asset to both our graduate studio programs and the area of photography in the Department of Art.
