Amanda Ross-Ho Joins FXR Collective for Getty Performances and Venice Biennale Collaboration
UC Irvine professor contributes to international FXR project exploring care, community and collective artistic practice
Getty announced a new performance engagement with Fac Xtra Retreat (FXR), a collective of seven Los Angeles-based Asian American artists and educators that includes UC Irvine Claire Trevor School of the Arts professor of art Amanda Ross-Ho. The collective will present 24-HOUR CARE at the Getty Center, March 14–15, 2026, with the project continuing internationally through performances connected to the Japan Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in May 2026.
“The collaborative work that I do with my performance collective, FXR has invigorated my individual art practice immensely by challenging singular authorship and fostering community discourse through an Asian diasporic lens,” said Ross-Ho. Expanding our presence to the Getty and the Venice Biennale with a new body of performative work spanning both locations signals an exciting moment of visibility and extensive collaboration for us on an international platform.”
The FXR project begins with a retreat involving the Asian American Pacific Islander Artist Network, followed by an overnight working session that informs a full day of public performances and participatory actions across the Getty Center campus. Through improvised dialogue, sculptural elements, and site-responsive interventions, the work explores the emotional and material realities of caregiving while proposing reciprocal models of support among artists and their communities.
Ross-Ho joins fellow FXR members Ei Arakawa-Nash, Patty Chang, Pearl C. Hsiung, Anna Sew Hoy, Shirley Tse, and Amy Yao. Together, the artists draw from their experiences as educators, parents, caregivers, and community members to examine the demands of care while proposing reciprocal models of support within creative communities.
Ross-Ho will also participate in performances connected to artist Ei Arakawa-Nash’s presentation at the Japan Pavilion of the Venice Biennale as part of FXR’s collaborative work. Her involvement reflects the collective nature of the project.
Co-produced by the Getty Museum and the Japan Foundation, the transpacific collaboration reflects a broader commitment to supporting artists whose practices shape contemporary conversations from the perspective of Southern California’s cultural communities.
