East Meets West: International Dance Festival

October 28 – November 3, 2018

Claire Trevor Theatre

The first annual event began in 2016 when the UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts, Shanghai Normal University, and Beijing Normal University collaborated to create a week-long exchange program and showcase. The program has continued and in 2017 UCI students and Dance faculty visited Shanghai Normal University to attend performances, workshops, and conferences.

This fall we are growing the event into a spectacular festival engaging both the local Southern California dance community and our international partners from Shanghai Normal University and Nanjing University of the Arts. During the week UCI will host conferences, workshops, and master classes with our partner universities. Local dance instructors and professionals are invited to join us for these activities.

To celebrate and showcase the great work and partnerships UCI will host 2 performances on Saturday, November 3 featuring UCI students, students from Shanghai Normal University and Nanjing University of the Arts, and community dance groups, including Indian Dance, Celeste Lanuza Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre William J. Gillespie School at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Pan American Chinese Dance Alliance, and Yaya Dance Academy.

Performances
Matinee: Saturday, November 3 at 2:00 p.m.
Evening: Saturday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m.
