UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School Announces Summer Music Program for Adults

The “In The Band” Fantasy Camp Let’s You Be a Member of the Band!  

Irvine, Calif., May 1, 2019 – UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts is launching its new “fantasy music camp” for adult solo musicians wanting stage and performance experience named “In The Band.” The 8-week program begins Thursday, July 22 and culminates Saturday, September 14, 2019, with a gig at the Anaheim House of Blues. This exciting program gives you the coaching necessary to become a “member of the band”!

Irvine, Calif., February 28, 2019 – UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts presents the California premiere of the provocative new play Parliament Square written by award-winning playwright James Fritz and directed by Jane Page. The show will be performed in the Experimental Media Performance Lab (xMPL) at the Contemporary Arts Center, UC Irvine March 9 - 17, 2019.

The first of its kind in the United States, this exhibition will feature a selection of works from 1992- 2018; a curated survey that highlights their joint practice of nearly thirty years.

UCI ARTS PRESENTS AN INTERMEDIA PERFORMANCE FOCUSED ON OUR EARTH’S OCEANS AND CLIMATE JUSTICE

Irvine, Calif., January 28, 2018 – UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts (CTSA) presents the experimental intermedia performance “Your Ocean, My Ocean" (YOMO). Produced by UCI’s Institute for 21st Century Creativity (21C), YOMO brings together a transdisciplinary group of artists and designers for an art and design project concerned with environmentalism, climate justice and community engagement. It is an artistic response to the natural beauty of oceans and coastlines, as well as to detrimental human impacts on ocean ecosystems. The premiere will take place February 6 – 9, 2019, in the Experimental Media Performance Lab (xMPL) at the University of California, Irvine followed by more performances at Brown University in April.

UCI DRAMA PLAYS WITH LANGUAGE AND LOVE IN THE CLASSIC THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, GUEST DIRECTED BY SHISHIR KURUP

Irvine, Calif., November 20, 2018 – UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts Department of Drama continues its 2018-19 season, entitled “Against All Odds,” with Oscar Wilde’s classic farce The Importance of Being Earnest. Guest directed by actor-director Shishir Kurup, it will play December 1 – 9 2018 in the Little Theatre on the UC Irvine campus. Widely thought to be Wilde’s most popular play, the rich language and quick wit of Earnest is a perennial draw, with this production given a notable depth of texture by Kurup’s dedication to drawing out a deeper level of resonance beneath the sparkling dialogue.

UCI DRAMA OPENS ITS SEASON BY CELEBRATING WOMEN IN LAW WITH THE AWARD-WINNING MUSICAL LEGALLY BLONDE

Irvine, Calif., October 22, 2018 –  UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts Department of Drama opens its 2018-19 season, entitled “Against All Odds,” with the irresistibly fun musical Legally Blonde at the Irvine Barclay Theatre. Nell Benjamin and Laurence O’Keefe’s 2007 Broadway hit, with a book by Heather Hach based on the Amanda Brown novel and movie of the same name, was nominated for multiple Tony Awards and won an award for Best Touring Musical in 2009. This story of Elle Woods’ journey, which begins as a quest for love and ends as a story of personal transformation, cleverly embeds its message of empowerment in a pink and rollicking world of music, humor, and double entendre.
