Mrs. Packard

Mrs. Packard

Written by Emily Mann

Directed by Melissa Livingston, MFA Directing Candidate

February 3 – 11, 2018

Claire Trevor Theatre

Mrs. Packard tells the story of a great American woman’s struggle to right a system gone wrong. On the morning of June 18, 1860, Reverend Theophilus Packard had his wife, Elizabeth, removed against her will from their home and committed to the state-run insane asylum for her liberal beliefs. Elizabeth remains true to her principles in the face of intense hardship. The play cuts back and forth from her time in the asylum and the trial she fought for that eventually set her free.

Parental guidance suggested due to mature theme and content, may not be suitable for children under 13 years of age.

Ken Goldenberg from "ThisDay" interviews Director Melissa Livingston and actress Jennifer Holcombe.

UCI DRAMA 2017-18 SEASON

The Business of Politics/The Politics of Business

Money talks. In an age when politicians are carefully-crafted public figures bought and paid for by lobbyists, Super PACs, corporate dollars and—potentially—a foreign government, a failed reality-TV star holds the office of the most powerful leader in the free world. Unsupported promises are more powerful than provable facts, and the interests of the ruling class are carried on the backs of the voiceless many… this is the era of the business of politics/the politics of business: where dirty deals are done daily.
