UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts Department of Drama is holding an open call audition for male dancers/singers of Asian/American or mixed race Asian descent to audition for the one remaining spot in the upcoming new Broadway musical Allegiance. WHEN/WHERE:  Pre-screen auditions will take place on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 10:00 am with call-back auditions on June 29, 2015.  The auditions will be held at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts Plaza, adjacent to the Claire Trevor Theatre, UCI Arts Campus. 4004 Mesa Road, Irvine 92617 (parking structure). They must also prepare a dance of two counts of eight that best shows your movement ability. Candidates must present a valid and current UCI student ID card, and will be seen in order of arrival. Media planning to attend should contact Jaime DeJong at (949) 824-2189 or jdejong@uci.edu. BACKGROUND: Beloved television star and popular social media icon George Takei (Star Trek, Heroes) stars in an unforgettable new musical, Allegiance. Takei stars alongside Telly Leung (Godspell, "Glee") and Tony Award® winner Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon, Aladdin, Mulan) in her highly anticipated Broadway return. Inspired by Takei’s true-life experience, Allegiance is an untold American story spanning from the lush California heartland, to the windswept prairies of Wyoming, to the European battlefields of World War II—a multi-generational tale of one Japanese American family's love, optimism and unparalleled heroism in the face of unimaginable circumstances. UCI Drama Professor Andrew Palermo is the choreographer on Allegiance, and he has informed us that casting directors have not yet been able to fill this remaining role, despite having already held auditions in New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto. Does the sought-after performer exist among the many talented students here at UCI? We would like to find out!
