Its quarterly concerts are routinely sold out. The Jazz Orchestra is dedicated to playing the music of the great composers and arrangers of big band history, as well as the latest works that have emerged internationally.

 International Conference Digital Art and Culture Conference '09Dec. 12 - 15, 2009
Arts Plaza at UC Irvine's Claire Trevor School of the Arts Several hundred international guests will converge on the CTSA campus this Dec. 12-15 for DAC '09, the Digital Art and Culture Conference organized by Studio Art Professor and Conference Director Simon Penny.
As part of an international series of conferences, DAC '09 is recognized as an interdisciplinary event involving a variety of fields, including media studies, media art, hyper-textual literature, computer science, cognitive science and human-computer interaction.
This iteration of DAC will dwell on the specificities of embodiment and cultural, social and physical location with respect to digital technologies and networked communications. More than 100 speakers from across the world will participate.
The conference is being sponsored by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Claire Trevor School of the Arts, Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Science and CalIT2. See the organization's web site for more specific information: http://dac09.uci.edu

 Department of Music Gassmann Electronic Music Series Latent Potentials featuring UC Faculty & Guest ArtistsMichael Dessen, Christopher Dobrian, Mark Dresser, Shahrokh Yadegari, John Crawford, Edwin Harkins & special guests

Winifred Smith Hall; Admission is free. This concert premieres new works that explore the artistic potentials of networking technologies with performers in San Diego and Irvine, linked through low-latency, CD-quality audio and high definition video. Each work on this evening's program takes a different approach to the telematic stage and the questions it raises: aesthetic, philosophical and technical.
The concert will feature compositions by Christopher Dobrian, Michael Dessen (trombone), and Shahrokh Yadegari (Lila) in collaboration with media artist John Crawford, bassist Mark Dresser, trumpeter Edwin Harkins and other special guests.
The concert is a presentation of the 2009 Digital Art and Culture Conference at UC Irvine in collaboration with the Gassmann Electronic Music Series and presents research that is funded in part by a grant from the Intel/UCI People and Practices Research Initiative.
