Arts and Technology

The Claire Trevor School of the Arts has a unique place among its peers as a 21st century school of the arts. While maintaining our excellence in the practice and teaching of traditional artistic expressions, we have a unique enthusiasm for the exploration of cutting edge technologies as they intersect the arts.

ACE (Arts, Computation, and Engineering) Graduate Program

The new ACE graduate program spearheads research initiatives that take full advantage of the growing cross-fertilization between the Arts, Engineering, and Information and Computer Sciences. With an emphasis on contextualization, the program focuses on real time computational arts and interactivity. Research and study areas include embodied interaction, mixed and augmented reality paradigms, embedded and ubiquitous computation, distributed and wireless technologies, and the elaboration of networked, distributed, and online cultural practices. The emphasis is on the envisioning and development of novel techno-cultural systems.

Students can choose a Master of Science degree in Engineering with a concentration in ACE, a Master of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in ACE, or a Master of Science degree in Information and Computer Science with a concentration in ACE.

Building Digital Skills - The Digital Arts Minor

Our Digital Arts Minor offers classes in digital imaging, theater design, interactive digital media, sound and video, dance and music technology and computer music composition. Student work is digitally exhibited in the CyberA Cafe and in the Beall Center for Art and Technology. Interdisciplinary projects allow students of computer science and engineering to work closely with arts students to gain practical experience in the sorts of collaborative endeavors that mark the working world.
