Claire Trevor School of the Arts

The Department of Dance in the Claire Trevor School of the Arts provides students with an educational environment in which performance opportunities, creative projects and theoretical studies compliment and reinforce each other. The program gives students a foundation in the profession of dance by providing a curriculum and an atmosphere in which the student may create, perform, analyze and study dance from historical, philosophical and scientific perspectives.

The program focuses on the techniques of ballet, modern, jazz, tap, world dance, and dance and technology. Theoretical studies include history; philosophy, aesthetics, and criticism; Laban studies; dance pedagogy; dance ethnography; dance science; and aesthetics of digital media. Creative opportunities bridge the studio and theoretical work through performance and choreography; creative applications of animation, motion capture, audio and video technologies; lecture demonstration; and critical, historical, ethnographical, and scientific writing.
