Intramural Resources
Claire Trevor School of the Arts Research and Travel GrantsFunding received from the Council on Research, Computing and Library Resources (CORCLR) and the Graduate Studies Office are matched by School funds and granted to faculty and graduate students by the School's Research Committee. Cultural Contact - U.S. - Mexico Foundation for Culture
The program promotes collaborations between artists in the U.S. and Mexico, or projects that present one country’s creative work in the other country. Grants range from $2,000 to $30,000 and require a match of at least 30% of the total project cost. Applicants affiliated with public or private universities are required to have their institutions match 50% of the project’s total cost. Artists, curators, producers, independent groups, non-profit cultural organizations, universities, or presenters quality.

Academy of Korean Studies Summer Program
The Academy of Korean Studies sponsors an intensive 4 week summer cultural program in Korea for foreign students and scholars in Korean studies. Applicants must be juniors, seniors, graduate students, professional researchers, or university lecturers in Korean studies. Accepted participants are responsible for travel expenses to and from Korea, but the cost of registration, courses, accommodation, meals, field trips, and an excursion trip are covered by the Academy of Korean Studies. Participants must have the ability to understand undergraduate level lectures and carry out discussions in Korean.
American Craft Council - Emerging Artist Grants

Program provides support for emerging artists working in all craft media (clay, glass, fiber, metal, wood and mixed-media) to support the creation of a new body of work, travel and research, or to attend professional development workshops.

Artists Exploration Fund
The fund enables individual performing artists to pursue opportunities abroad that further their artistic development. Grants range from $1,000 to $3,000 for a variety of activities including the development or expansion of creative relationships, the exploration of artistic forms, or the creation of new work. Eligible expenses may include travel, per diem, and other essential costs.
Arts Exchange Programs - Asian Cultural Council
The Asian Cultural Council supports cultural exchange in visual and performing arts between the U.S. and the countries of Asia. Although the major focus is to support visits by Asian scholars and artists, some grants are available for Americans to travel and conduct research in Asia. Grants are also awarded to institutions for projects involving cultural exchange between Asia and the U.S.
Boren Undergraduate Scholarships for Study Abroad - IIE
The Institute of International Education invites applications to the David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship Program (formerly the National Security Education Program Fellowships for Undergraduates), to support the study of languages and cultures currently underrepresented in study abroad. Scholarships are awarded for study in all countries except Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and those in Western Europe. Scholarships provide up to $10,000 for one academic term, based on need.
College Art Association Fellowship
Numerous fellowship and scholarship opportunities available. The Professional Development Fellowship Scholarship awards $5,000 for use during the final year of the M.F.A., terminal M.A. or Ph.D. program. CAA then helps each fellow secure employment or an internship at a museum, art center, college, or university, and subsidizes part of his/her salary. Eligible applicants should be artists and art historians from culturally diverse backgrounds who have been underrepresented in the field due to their race, religion, gender, age, national origin, disability or history of economic disadvantage.

A national nonprofit organization that provides funding for artists.
Fondation des Etats-Unis
The foundation awards Harriet Hale Woolley Scholarships to accomplished U.S. citizens for graduate study in visual fine arts (painting, graphic design, printmaking, or sculpture) or music (instrumental or vocal performance) in Paris in a recognized French school or music conservatory. Applicants must be between the ages of 21 and 29, and be proficient in the French language. Awards include a stipend of $8,000 for the academic year.
Fund for U.S. Artists at International Festivals and Exhibitions
Arts International’s longest running program provides grants to individual performing artists and organizations that have been invited to participate in international festivals around the world. Applications are especially encouraged from artists invited to festivals in areas of the world where U.S. work is not frequently seen, such as Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Grants generally range from $1,000 to $15,000.
U.S. Department of State Fulbright Program
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
Scholarships of up to $5,000 for undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue study programs outside of the United States for up to one year. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation
Individual support grant to provide funds for mature (at least 20 years in the field), painters, sculptors and printmakers in current financial need. Guggenheim Fellowships
Guggenheim Fellowships are intended to further the development of scholars and artists by assisting them to engage in creation or composition in the arts. Advanced creative artists are supported typically for six to twelve months. The performing arts are excluded.
International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX)
Fellowships to US pre doctoral and postdoctoral scholars for individual long-term research in Central Europe and Eurasia. Countries include: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Hungary, Iran, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Eurasia: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) Short-term Travel Grants
IREX offers short-term travel grants to U.S. scholars in the humanities and social sciences for visits of up to 2 months to conduct postdoctoral research, present papers at conferences, or engage in collaborative projects in countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Iran, and Turkey. Projects should improve public, cultural, and historical knowledge of these regions through dissemination of research results. Grants are up to $3,000 and include airfare, per diem, and other incidental expenses.
The Japan Foundation - Arts Programs
Artist Fellowshipsprovide artists the opportunity to pursue creative projects in Japan for 2 to 6 months.
Langlois Foundation
The Daniel Langlois Foundation for Art, Science, and Technology annually awards two grants to individuals making an exceptional contribution to advancing knowledge at the crossroads of art, science, and technology, or to individuals whose projects are highly original or innovative. Projects proposed by scientific researchers, computer scientists, or engineers must involve a partnership with an artist.
Lannan Foundation
Since 1983, the Lannan Foundation has awarded over five thousand grants to various literary and visual artists, cultural preservation and social programs. The foundation firmly believes in the importance of fostering creativity, diversity and innovation.
Liquitex "Excellence in Art" Purchase Award Program
Awards totaling over $14,000 in cash and products will be made to artists demonstrating skill and creativity in the use of acrylic paints.
National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences
NARAS awards grants to nonprofit organizations and individuals to support efforts that advance 1) the archiving and preservation of the music and recorded sound heritage of the Americas and 2) research projects related to music such as teaching methodology in early childhood, the impact of music study on early childhood and human development, and the medical and occupational well being of music professionals. Grants range from $10,000 to $40,000.
Onassis Public Benefit Foundation
The Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation seeks applications for grants from foreign full members of Academies of Science, university professors and researchers, artists, and translators of Greek literature, and for scholarships from postgraduate students and Ph.D. candidates. The aim of the program is the dissemination of the Hellenic language, culture, and history abroad. Grants are awarded in the fields of humanistic sciences, political science, law, economics, architecture, and the arts, and provide round-trip airfare, accommodations, and a monthly allowance.
Pollock-Krasner Foundation

Aaron Siskind Foundation - Photography Fellowships
Grants of up to $5,000 to individuals working in photography based media. Students enrolled at any time during the 2002 calendar year are not eligible to apply.

Residencies
American Academy in Berlin
U.S. citizens only. Located at the Hans Arnold center, an historic lakeside villa in the Wannsee district of Berlin, Germany. Average length of residencies is 1-2 academic semesters. Institution pays for housing, studios, food, travel, facilities and program administration.
The American Academy in Rome
Fellowships for artists and scholars, US citizens. BA in art or equivalent required. Residency at Academy in Rome, monthly stipend, travel and supply allowance, studio and partial board. Atlantic Center for the Arts
The Center officially opened in 1982 for the first residency with author James Dickey, sculptor Duane Hanson, and composer David del Tredici. Since then, over 260 Master Artists and over 1,700 Associate Artists have participated in over 90 residencies.The program brings together internationally acclaimed artists with mid-career artists who are selected by the masters. The artists attend a three-week residency session that includes master classes, individual critiques, opportunities for collaboration, and private studio time.
Balmoral Fellowship for Visual Art
Eleven month residential fellowship at The Kunstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral, Bad Ems, Germany to artists working in painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, graphic art, design, photography and art theory. Knowledge of German required. Awards include accommodations, a grant of $2,000 DM (circa $900) per month, and funding of the fellow’s events.
Banff Centre
Banff, Canada: Interactive year-round working retreat for composers, writers and visual artists working independently and/or in collaboration with adjoined arts center. Room/board included in tuition. Applications year-round for residencies (maximum 3 months). Camargo Foundation (France)
The Camargo Foundation maintains a study center in Cassis, France, for the benefit of scholars who wish to pursue projects related to French and francophone cultures. The Foundation also sponsors creative projects by writers, visual artists, photographers, video artists, filmmakers, media artists and composers.
The Centre for Research and Documentation at The Daniel Langlois Foundation
The Daniel Langlois Foundation for Art, Science, and Technology annually awards two grants to enable researchers at the doctoral or postdoctoral levels to undertake research residencies of 3 to 6 months at the Centre of Research and Documentation (CR+D) in Montreal. CR+D aims to document and make available to researchers the history, artworks, and practices associated with electronic and media arts.

The Helen Riaboff Whiteley Center
The Center provides a refuge for established scholars and artists to study, write, create, and interact with collaborators in a peaceful and quiet environment. It is located at the University of Washington’s Friday Harbor Laboratories, a marine science research and education center north of Puget Sound, Washington. Scholars at the Helen R. Whiteley Center can work in isolation if they choose or take advantage of opportunities to mingle with marine scientists or other Whiteley Center scholars.
Irish American Cultural Institute
The National University of Ireland, Galway, and the Irish American Cultural Institute jointly sponsor visiting fellowships at for US scholars whose work deals with any aspect of Irish studies. The award included a stipend of $13,000, travel expenses, and office accommodations for 4 month period or longer.
La Napoule Artists-in-Residence Program - France
The La Napoule Art Foundation is a not-for-profit organization sponsoring international, multidisciplinary programs as an avenue for cultural exchange. The artists-in-residence program is situated at the chateau of La Napoule just west of Cannes overlooking the Mediterrean, and offers a unique atmosphere in which to work and live.
Liguria Study Center for the Arts and Humanities/Bogliasco Fellowship
Program provides an intimate setting (16 persons) for artistic and scholarly work on the Italian Mediterranean Coast not far from Genova.
The MacDowell Colony
Peterborough, NH: 450-acre retreat for writers, visual artists, film/video artists and composers with professional standing. Room/board and private studios provided. Residencies average 5-8 weeks. Some travel grants available.
