21C: Institute for 21st Century Creativity

The Institute for 21st Century Creativity (21C) cultivates interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary and metadisciplinary practices linking art, technology and design. Based in the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, 21C supports artistic creation and associated research across the entire UC Irvine campus.

Art + Technology + Design

The 20th-century visionary Buckminster Fuller was “an emerging synthesis of artist, inventor, mechanic, objective economist and evolutionary strategist.”
In that spirit, 21C is dedicated to reimagining creativity for the 21st century through integrated arts-based research.

Founded by Dean Stephen Barker with support from the UCI Office of Research, 21C is directed by Professor John Crawford, an intermedia artist, director and technology developer. Membership in 21C is open to all CTSA faculty and graduate students. Faculty from other schools are welcomed as affiliates.
